(I laughed when I read the draft of this post, as I wrote it three weeks ago. I didn’t know then how apt some of the language would be, or how sadly dramatic the astrological symbolism would become).
With Pluto and Venus, the drive for acquisition or the satisfaction of desires is strong. What is considered most valuable is sought out and coveted. Venus is trapped here, in a no man’s land, besieged by powerful and corruptive forces. The dryness of Capricorn does nothing to help her oil the cogs of social interaction, and she may have to resort to bargaining power; a language the other two planets and the sign understand.
The nature of the Mars-Venus conjunction is dynamic; Venus draws together, Mars forces apart. Venus seeks unity in commonality and sharing, Mars seeks differentiation and competition. The juxtaposition of planets associated with love and sex creates a powerful attraction of opposites, albeit one that is hard to sustain. The mood is one of love/hate, the realization that you both want something and do not (perhaps for different reasons), attraction and repulsion, embrace and denial. You may blow hot and cold about something, stand on the cusp of decision, passionately encounter, run for the hills…to boot we have Pluto thrown in. What takes place concerning the inner, faster planets of Mars and Venus may dredge up old hurts and traumas, or expose our weaknesses or fears. The flip side is that all three together in this sign can also be the remedy; Venus supplying the compassion for yourself and others, Mars giving you decisiveness (if you avoid being reeled in by Pluto and Venus!), and Capricorn supplying the resolve to overcome. Pluto is an opportunity to turn the darkness, the shadow into riches, and Venus knows how.
