Venus in Pisces: the Birth of Aphrodite. A Healing Balm

The birth of Venus by Alexander Cabanel

Since yesterday, for the whole month, Venus is in Pisces.

When the Titan Cronus castrated his father, Uranus, the severed genitalia fell into the sea, and from the semen and the seafoam Venus was conceived – she was born a fully adult woman. Her name was long thought to mean ‘of the sea foam’ but later scholars have analyzed the meaning to be ‘very bright’ and ‘wanderer’ which certainly makes sense given she is Lucifer (light bringer) when she is the morning star, freshly born with the day.

I have already talked about her marriage with Haephestus and tryst with Ares for which she is most famous. She has left them both behind her now and separates from Mars in the tranquil waters of Pisces.

This is her exaltation. Here her significations of poetry, music, laughter, love, peace, art, beauty, kindness, unity, harmony, smiles, sweet and oily foods, dance, music, and friendship all find themselves well received and expressed in gentle Pisces, who would like nothing more than to kick back and relax with good friends and escape the world.

Venus in Pisces wants to apply the healing balm to the world, to sing it to sleep with a lullaby, to smooth the worried brow and charm you into some fairy tale. It is harmless, wholesome joy.

She is also the planet of victory in war. Presumably, this means the beginning of peace again, or at least not fighting. Being receptive, and in a receptive, mutable sign there is little she can do to assuage the problems that flare in other parts of the sky. But she is a refuge. An Oasis in a desert of destruction, she is compassion when it is most needed.

What to do with Venus in Pisces

Showing compassion and unity is essential for peace. giving gifts, doing favours, sharing a smile, and not giving in to the storm.

Art, poetry, music, dance, and theatre, all belong to her, and Pisces is a sign that prefers leisure and escapism. Anything that brings out your artistic nature and allows you to become other than you are, to cross over into fairy tale territory.

In particular, a visit to a babbling brook or a spring would be appropriate, where you can sit and listen in peace to the water’s laughter, and enjoy the budding season. If you go, pray peace.

Phenomenal Woman

Venus in Pisces is pure poetry, so today I offer you a poem. Maya Angelou has Sun in Aries and Venus in Pisces. Both exalted positions for these planets, for a very exalted woman. An all-time favorite poet of mine, Maya had a difficult start in life she would soar above the whole of the rest of it. multi-talented, multi-lingual, multi-award-winning writer and activist. She had Venus conjunct Mercury in Pisces: Mercury in Pisces is called ‘mute’ and she literally was for several years as a child. Her autobiography ‘I know why the caged bird sings’ is symbolically present in her Venus conjunct Mercury in Pisces, squaring her Saturn in Sagittarius.

Phenomenal Woman

By Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.

I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model’s size

But when I start to tell them,

They think I’m telling lies.

I say,

It’s in the reach of my arms,

The span of my hips,

The stride of my step,

The curl of my lips.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

I walk into a room

Just as cool as you please,

And to a man,

The fellows stand or

Fall down on their knees.

Then they swarm around me,

A hive of honey bees.

I say,

It’s the fire in my eyes,

And the flash of my teeth,

The swing in my waist,

And the joy in my feet.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Men themselves have wondered

What they see in me.

They try so much

But they can’t touch

My inner mystery.

When I try to show them,

They say they still can’t see.

I say,

It’s in the arch of my back,

The sun of my smile,

The ride of my breasts,

The grace of my style.

I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.

Now you understand

Just why my head’s not bowed.

I don’t shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need for my care.

’Cause I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.
